Blood pressure screening during Preventive Care

Visit details

The point of Preventive Care is catching problems while they are small. That means reviewing your risk factors, recommending routine screenings at the right time, ordering the tests that make sense and following up on what they show.

Not every screening or lab test is right for every patient. Recommendations stay individual, and we explain why a test is or is not on your list.

Patient Questions

Questions about Preventive Care.

All Patient Questions
Why does family medical history matter for Preventive Care?

Family history can change when certain screenings begin and which risk factors deserve attention. Share significant conditions in close relatives when available.

How do I choose between a stool test and a colonoscopy?

The best colorectal cancer screening method depends on your age, risk, past results and preferences. An abnormal stool test generally requires follow-up colonoscopy.

When should I ask about bone-density screening?

Bone health assessment depends on age, fracture history, medications and other risk factors. We can discuss whether a bone-density test or further assessment is appropriate.

Can Preventive Care include sexually transmitted infection screening?

Yes. Screening recommendations depend on exposures, symptoms, pregnancy status and other individual factors. Testing can be arranged through a nearby laboratory.

Can you help me make a tobacco-cessation plan?

Yes. We can discuss nicotine dependence, triggers, behavioral strategies and medication options when appropriate.

Why might I not need every blood test every year?

Tests are chosen for your risks, symptoms and previous results. Unnecessary testing can lead to false alarms and follow-up procedures without improving health.

Can Preventive Care address heart disease risk before symptoms appear?

Yes. We assess factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, tobacco use, family history and activity, then discuss ways to reduce risk.

What should I do if I am overdue for recommended vaccinations?

We can review your vaccine history and suggest where to obtain indicated vaccines locally. Vaccinations themselves require an in-person location.

Do sleep, stress and physical activity count as Preventive Care?

Yes. These habits can influence cardiovascular, metabolic and mental health, and are part of a comprehensive prevention plan.

Should screening recommendations change after an abnormal result?

Often. An abnormal or incomplete screening may require a diagnostic test or an adjusted follow-up interval. We explain what the result means and help coordinate next steps.

Can you help coordinate preventive screenings?

Yes. We review your age, history, family history and risk factors, recommend the screenings that fit, and order or coordinate them at facilities near you. Results come back to us and we go over them with you.

Can you order a mammogram?

Yes, when it is appropriate for your age and risk. We place the order with an imaging center near you and review the result with you afterward.

Can you refer me for a colonoscopy or other colorectal cancer screening?

Yes. Depending on your age, history and risk, options include a colonoscopy referral or a stool-based test such as FIT. We help choose the right option and follow up on the result.

What preventive screenings might I need based on my age and risk factors?

Screening depends on your age, medical and family history, and risk factors. It may include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, bone-density or STI screening. Your provider explains which tests fit your needs and when to repeat them.

Can you order routine cholesterol, diabetes, thyroid, and other monitoring tests?

Yes. When clinically indicated, we can order tests such as cholesterol panels, A1c, thyroid tests, kidney or liver function, blood counts and selected vitamin levels. The choice and timing depend on your symptoms, conditions, medications and previous results; not everyone needs all of these tests routinely.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.
