A first visit covers what you are feeling, how long it has been going on, what you have already tried and what is going on around it: sleep, work, health and family. From there, you and Charles build a plan together. It may include medication, therapy referrals, lifestyle changes or a mix.

Follow-up visits check how the plan is working, watch for side effects and adjust when something is not helping. Mental health symptoms tied to other medical conditions are looked at alongside them.

GeneSight® TestingIf depression or anxiety medication has not worked well, or side effects keep getting in the way, GeneSight® Testing may add useful information to the next decision.

Patient Questions

Questions about mental health.

All Patient Questions
How can I tell whether worry has become an anxiety disorder?

Worry may warrant assessment when it is persistent, difficult to control or interferes with sleep, relationships or everyday activities.

What is the difference between a panic attack and generalized anxiety?

Panic attacks involve sudden surges of intense fear or physical symptoms, while generalized anxiety often involves ongoing worry across several areas of life. Both deserve individualized evaluation.

Can depression cause physical symptoms such as fatigue or changes in sleep?

Yes. Depression can affect energy, appetite, sleep, concentration and physical well-being. Medical conditions and medications may also contribute.

Can trauma-related symptoms be discussed in a telehealth visit?

Yes. We can review PTSD-related concerns at your pace and discuss medication, supportive care and referrals to trauma-focused therapy when appropriate.

Will I be asked about sleep, substances and medical conditions?

Yes. These factors can affect mood and attention, and reviewing them helps avoid overlooking treatable contributors.

How long does it take for an antidepressant to help?

Some symptoms may begin to improve within a few weeks, but full response can take longer. Timing varies by medication and individual, and follow-up is important.

What should I do if a mental health medication causes side effects?

Contact the practice for guidance. Do not stop a prescribed medicine abruptly without advice unless urgent symptoms require emergency treatment.

Can you coordinate treatment with my therapist?

With your permission, we can consider information from your therapist and coordinate medication management with ongoing counseling.

Are grief and adjustment difficulties always treated with medication?

No. Support, counseling and time may be appropriate, while medication is considered only when clinically indicated.

What if my mental health symptoms suddenly become unsafe?

If you may harm yourself or someone else or are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to an emergency department. In the United States, call or text 988 for crisis support.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.
