When it helps, lab and hormone testing is ordered to understand symptoms and guide treatment. Medications are managed based on your evaluation, results, history and applicable rules.

Preventive screening is part of it too: mammograms, cervical cancer screening and bone density are coordinated through facilities near you.

Patient Questions

Questions about women’s health.

All Patient Questions
How is perimenopause different from menopause?

Perimenopause is the transition when cycles and symptoms may change; menopause is generally reached after 12 consecutive months without a period, absent another cause.

When does heavy or irregular bleeding need evaluation?

New or persistent bleeding changes may need pregnancy testing, laboratory tests, imaging or gynecologic assessment. Heavy bleeding with dizziness or fainting requires urgent care.

Can PCOS affect weight, skin and menstrual cycles?

Yes. PCOS can involve irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth and metabolic concerns. Evaluation considers symptoms, testing and possible alternative causes.

What if I have hot flashes but cannot use hormone therapy?

Nonhormonal treatment approaches may be available. We can review symptoms and medical history to discuss appropriate options.

Can vaginal dryness or painful intercourse be discussed by telehealth?

Yes. We can discuss possible causes and treatments, but persistent pain, bleeding or unclear symptoms may require an examination.

Is every hormone symptom diagnosed with a blood test?

No. Many diagnoses rely heavily on history, age and symptom pattern, and hormone levels can fluctuate. Testing is chosen when it is likely to change management.

Can birth control needs change with age or medical history?

Yes. Certain conditions and risk factors affect contraceptive safety. We can review options as your health or preferences change.

Can urinary burning be confused with a vaginal infection?

Yes. Urinary and vaginal symptoms can overlap but have different causes and treatments. Testing or an in-person examination may be needed.

When should I ask about bone health during menopause?

Age, fracture history and other risk factors can guide discussion of activity, nutrition, calcium and vitamin D intake, and bone-density screening when appropriate.

What symptoms during a possible pregnancy require emergency care?

During a possible pregnancy, sudden or severe abdominal or pelvic pain, fainting, shoulder pain or heavy bleeding can signal an emergency, including ectopic pregnancy. Seek emergency care immediately rather than waiting for a video visit.

Can you order a mammogram?

Yes, when it is appropriate for your age and risk. We place the order with an imaging center near you and review the result with you afterward.

Can you help coordinate preventive screenings?

Yes. We review your age, history, family history and risk factors, recommend the screenings that fit, and order or coordinate them at facilities near you. Results come back to us and we go over them with you.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.
