Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Rural Panhandle county seat on I-10 near the Alabama and Georgia lines; agricultural and correctional-facility economy, still recovering from Hurricane Michael (2018), with a county poverty rate of 19.5%.
Marianna and the rest of Jackson County have one hospital, Jackson Hospital, and fewer clinicians than the cities down I-10. Since Campbellton-Graceville Hospital closed in 2017, people in the north end of the county drive about 20 miles for emergency care. A video visit with Charles Wade, FNP-BC, gives you primary care, mental health, ADHD, weight management, sleep, skin concerns and minor urgent care from home, with labs, imaging and prescriptions sent to Jackson Hospital, PanCare or a pharmacy you choose. You need a phone or computer with a connection that can carry video; if your connection is weak, say so when scheduling so the visit can be planned around it.
Florida’s uninsured rate for people under 65 was 13.6% in 2024 versus 9.8% nationally (KFF, ACS 1-year); all-ages uninsured was 10.9%, ranking 45th among states (America’s Health Rankings, ACS 2024). As of January 1, 2026, Florida had 320 primary care HPSAs and 239 mental health HPSAs, and would need 1,434 more primary care practitioners and 545 more mental health practitioners to eliminate them (Florida Senate analysis of SB 1480, 2026).
Hurricane season continuity: during qualifying emergencies, ask your pharmacist and insurer about early refills under Florida law; authorized refills and other coverage requirements still apply. Jackson County lost its second hospital when Campbellton-Graceville closed in 2017, and Hurricane Michael in 2018 damaged Marianna businesses and knocked out power to nearly all customers across a large part of the Panhandle, some for weeks.
This helps Jackson County residents who would otherwise drive to Marianna, Dothan or Tallahassee for Routine Care, including farmers and shift workers at the correctional facilities, parents of school-age children, and older adults managing blood pressure, diabetes or sleep problems. It also helps people who want private mental health or ADHD care in a small town. Go in person to Jackson Hospital, PanCare or an urgent care for physical exams, injuries, wound care or same-day imaging. Call 911 or go to Jackson Hospital’s emergency department for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing trouble, serious injuries or any crisis involving risk of self-harm; do not wait for a video visit.
Medicaid: Florida Medicaid is delivered through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program run by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Under SB 1950 (2022), the state moved from 11 numbered regions to 9 lettered regions (A-I) effective February 2025, with new plan contracts starting February 1, 2025. Regions by county (F.S. 409.966): A = Panhandle/Big Bend (Escambia through Leon, incl. Jackson and Leon); B = North Central and Northeast (incl. Duval, Sumter, Lake, Marion, Alachua, Volusia); C = Pasco and Pinellas; D = Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Polk; E = Brevard, Orange, Osceola, Seminole; F = Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Sarasota; G = Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, St. Lucie; H = Broward; I = Miami-Dade and Monroe. Florida Blue (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, part of GuideWell) sells individual/family, employer and Medicare plans and is a commercial insurer, not a Medicaid plan.
AHCA’s MMA plans-by-region table: Sunshine Health, Humana Medical Plan, Simply Healthcare and Florida Community Care serve all nine regions (A-I); Community Care Plan serves E, F, G, H, I; Aetna Better Health serves D, E, I; UnitedHealthcare serves B, D, I; Molina Healthcare serves Region I only (Miami-Dade and Monroe) after exiting its other regions effective 2/1/2025. Dental plans DentaQuest and Liberty serve all regions. Place mapping: Jacksonville and The Villages = Region B; Tallahassee and Marianna = Region A; Tampa = Region D; Orlando = Region E; St. Petersburg = Region C; Fort Myers and Immokalee = Region F; Miami = Region I.
