Labs, imaging and pharmacies near Reno.

Reno has a solid network for the in-person pieces of care. Quest Diagnostics has patient service centers on S. McCarran Blvd. and Elm St., and Labcorp lists four Reno locations, including Mill St. and S. Virginia St. Saint Mary’s runs freestanding lab and imaging offices, and Renown’s X-Ray & Imaging centers take walk-in X-rays and schedule CT, ultrasound and MRI. If you are a patient at Community Health Alliance or Northern Nevada HOPES, both offer labs and low-cost pharmacies on site.

Prescriptions are sent electronically to Walgreens or whichever pharmacy you name. Fasting blood work is simplest first thing in the morning; check the site’s hours, since some centers close midday or do not open on Saturdays.

Community Health Alliance health centers in Reno and Sparks, including Wells Avenue, Neil Road, Sun Valley, Center for Complex Care and Sparks with medical, dental, behavioral health, WIC and low-cost pharmacies, Northern Nevada HOPES (FQHC), 4th St. and 5th St. clinics in downtown Reno; primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, HIV care and Nevada Health Centers, Willow Street Health Center, 790 Willow St serve the area with in-person primary care on a sliding scale. Nevada Medicaid plans are not on the participating list right now. Plans accepted in Nevada: BCBS / Anthem PPO, UnitedHealthcare PPO, UMR (PPO), Aetna PPO, Cigna PPO, Humana PPO, Ambetter PPO, TRICARE. Is Reno a health professional shortage area?

Washoe County contains primary care HPSA areas (boundaries expanded in a recent state update) and falls within Nevada’s near-universal mental health HPSA coverage; check HRSA HPSA Find for a specific address. Telehealth can complement local clinicians by offering another way to access primary care, mental health and medication follow-up while you keep your local relationships.

Can orders be sent to a laboratory or imaging facility near me?

When clinically appropriate, we can send orders to a laboratory or imaging facility you choose. Confirm that the location performs the requested test, accepts the order and participates in your insurance network. Availability and travel distance vary by community.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Getting care in Reno

Northern Nevada’s hub city at about 4,500 feet in the high desert along the Truckee River, with a gaming and tourism base now joined by logistics and tech employers.

Reno is the medical center for the northern half of Nevada, which means its clinics absorb demand from a huge rural region and new-patient waits can be long. A video visit with Wade’s Care First gives you a direct route to primary care, mental health and ADHD follow-up, weight management, dermatology questions and sleep concerns without competing for a slot. You connect from home, a break room or your car, including early mornings and evenings that suit casino, hospital and warehouse schedules.

The practice is telehealth only and has no Reno office. When something needs hands-on work, such as blood tests, an X-ray or a vaccine, you are sent to a Reno or Sparks facility, and prescriptions go to the pharmacy you choose.

Access in Washoe County

Washoe County has 21.7 percent of Nevada’s active physicians (1,623) for about 16 percent of the population, and much of the state’s rural north depends on Reno for specialty care. Nevada’s 2025 UNR Med physician workforce report finds the state would need 2,303 more physicians to reach the national per-capita average, including 251 family medicine doctors, 411 pediatricians and 105 psychiatrists; in 35 of 37 AMA specialty areas Nevada is below the national rate, and psychiatrists number 8.7 per 100,000 versus 12.2 nationally.

UNR Med reporting has placed Nevada 45th among states for active physicians and 48th for primary care physicians per capita. About 64.9 percent of Nevadans live in a federally designated primary care HPSA and 91.3 percent live in a mental health HPSA (15 of 17 counties are single-county mental health HPSAs). The state Primary Care Office notes all 17 counties carry some shortage designation; in cities a key driver is that many providers do not accept Medicaid, and in rural and frontier areas travel time to a provider can be several hours. Nevada’s uninsured rate was 11.4 percent in 2024 (47th of 50 states; US 8.2 percent).

Who this helps most in Reno

This fits Reno residents who work nights at casinos, hospitals or distribution centers, university students and young workers without a regular doctor, parents who need a pediatric visit for a child five or older, and adults managing ADHD, anxiety or depression who want consistent follow-up. It also suits people in outlying Washoe County neighborhoods who would rather not drive into town for a routine check-in.

Some situations call for in-person care. Chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe shortness of breath, a serious fall or a mental health crisis need 911 or a 24-hour emergency room, such as Saint Mary’s, Renown Regional or Northern Nevada Sierra. On heavy smoke days, people with asthma or COPD who are struggling to breathe should be seen in person.

Local health considerations

  • Wildfire smoke and air quality: Northern Nevada Public Health’s Air Quality Management Division monitors Washoe County air; AirNow notes fine particles in smoke can worsen heart and lung disease, with older adults, children and people with asthma or heart disease at higher risk.
  • Elevation and climate: Reno sits at roughly 4,500 feet in a cold semi-arid climate; dry air, large day-night temperature swings and winter inversions affect asthma, COPD and skin conditions.
  • 24-hour work: leisure and hospitality was about 14.6 percent of Reno-metro jobs in August 2026 (41,500 of 284,900), and casino, hospital and warehouse shifts run around the clock; NIOSH links short sleep to obesity and chronic illness.
