Which Pahrump hospitals have an emergency department?

Desert View Hospital (operated by a UHS subsidiary), 360 S. Lola Ln., Pahrump, 25-bed critical access hospital, the only hospital in Nye County; 24-hour emergency care, laboratory and radiology; interfacility transfers to Las Vegas are common by ground and helicopter and Las Vegas hospitals roughly an hour away (UMC Level I trauma, Sunrise, Spring Valley, Southern Hills, St. Rose San Martin) for trauma, specialty and pediatric inpatient care. For chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, a major injury or thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than booking a video visit.

Are there community health centers in Pahrump for in-person care?

Nevada Health Centers, Pahrump Family Health Center, 1430 E. Calvada Blvd and Nevada Health Centers, Amargosa Valley Medical Clinic, 1690 E. Amargosa Farm Rd. (about 30 miles north) serve the area with in-person primary care on a sliding scale. Many patients pair that kind of local clinic with telehealth for follow-ups, medication management and specialist coordination.

Can I use Nevada Medicaid or other insurance for a telehealth visit from Pahrump?

Nevada Medicaid plans are not on the participating list right now. Plans accepted in Nevada: BCBS / Anthem PPO, UnitedHealthcare PPO, UMR (PPO), Aetna PPO, Cigna PPO, Humana PPO, Ambetter PPO, TRICARE. Benefits are verified before your visit, and self-pay pricing is posted if your plan is not accepted.

Is Pahrump a health professional shortage area?

Nye County is a federally designated mental health HPSA (as are all rural and frontier Nevada counties) and is among the rural counties designated as single-county primary care HPSAs per UNR Med’s 2025 summary of HRSA data; confirm a specific address on HRSA HPSA Find. Telehealth can complement local clinicians by offering another way to access primary care, mental health and medication follow-up while you keep your local relationships.

Can orders be sent to a laboratory or imaging facility near me?

When clinically appropriate, we can send orders to a laboratory or imaging facility you choose. Confirm that the location performs the requested test, accepts the order and participates in your insurance network. Availability and travel distance vary by community.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Getting care in Pahrump

An unincorporated desert exurb about 50 to 60 miles west of Las Vegas, home to most of Nye County’s residents, with one small hospital for a county of more than 18,000 square miles.

Desert View Hospital provides local emergency, laboratory and imaging services in Pahrump. Some specialty care may require travel outside town. Many residents already drive an hour into Las Vegas for a specialist. A video visit with Wade’s Care First lets you handle routine primary care, blood pressure and diabetes follow-up, mental health and ADHD treatment, skin concerns, weight management and sleep problems from home, without the trip over Mountain Springs.

The practice is telehealth only and has no Pahrump office. When you need a blood draw, an X-ray or a prescription, the order is sent to Desert View Hospital, the Quest or Labcorp site in town, or your local pharmacy, so you only travel for what truly requires it.

Access in Nye County

Nye County’s 2022 quarterly health report to the State Board of Health describes Desert View as the single hospital for a county of more than 18,000 square miles, a 25-bed critical access facility with limited services, operating at capacity with ongoing staffing challenges, with local clinics offering limited services and hours and frequent transfers to Las Vegas by Pahrump Fire Rescue or helicopter. Nevada’s 14 rural and frontier counties together have 244 active physicians, 3 psychiatrists and 4 dermatologists; 12 of 14 are single-county primary care HPSAs and 100 percent of rural residents live in a mental health HPSA.

Nevada’s 2025 UNR Med physician workforce report finds the state would need 2,303 more physicians to reach the national per-capita average, including 251 family medicine doctors, 411 pediatricians and 105 psychiatrists; in 35 of 37 AMA specialty areas Nevada is below the national rate, and psychiatrists number 8.7 per 100,000 versus 12.2 nationally. UNR Med reporting has placed Nevada 45th among states for active physicians and 48th for primary care physicians per capita.

About 64.9 percent of Nevadans live in a federally designated primary care HPSA and 91.3 percent live in a mental health HPSA (15 of 17 counties are single-county mental health HPSAs). The state Primary Care Office notes all 17 counties carry some shortage designation; in cities a key driver is that many providers do not accept Medicaid, and in rural and frontier areas travel time to a provider can be several hours. Nevada’s uninsured rate was 11.4 percent in 2024 (47th of 50 states; US 8.2 percent).

Who this helps most in Pahrump

Telehealth fits Pahrump residents who want steady management of several medications without a Las Vegas drive, adults who cannot find a local psychiatrist or dermatologist, workers commuting to the valley on long shifts, parents needing a pediatric visit for a child five or older, and people in Amargosa Valley or other outlying areas even farther from care. If you are uninsured, pricing is clear up front.

Know when video is not enough. Chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing trouble, serious injury, heat stroke or a mental health crisis need 911 or Desert View Hospital’s 24-hour emergency department, which can arrange transfer to Las Vegas if needed. For in-person sliding-fee care, contact Nevada Health Centers’ Pahrump Family Health Center at 1430 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 200, about appointments and sliding-fee eligibility.

Local health considerations

  • One small hospital for a vast county: Desert View is a 25-bed critical access hospital operating at capacity with staffing challenges, and interfacility transfers to Las Vegas are routine, so chronic conditions are best kept stable before they become emergencies.
  • Distance: Pahrump is about 50 to 60 miles from Las Vegas over Highway 160 and the Mountain Springs pass, and some specialty services may require travel outside town.
  • Extreme heat at low desert elevation (about 2,700 feet): NWS Las Vegas HeatRisk forecasts cover Pahrump; dehydration and heat illness are risks for outdoor workers and for older adults on diuretics or psychiatric medications.
