Conditions and services listed here are examples. Growing south-side suburb of Indianapolis in Johnson County, just south of Indianapolis; its hospitals sit just across that line in Marion County.
Greenwood’s hospitals are all just over the county line. Community Hospital South and the 24-hour Franciscan Health emergency department on S Emerson Ave sit along County Line Road, Ascension St. Vincent runs a freestanding ER nearby, and Johnson Memorial Health is south in Franklin. Routine Care is thinner than that list suggests: the Johnson Service Area has been a federally designated Medically Underserved Area since 1994, the county is inside a low-income mental health shortage area, and Johnson Memorial recently consolidated its Greenwood pediatric office into Franklin.
A video visit with Wade’s Care First gives you primary care, ADHD and mental health treatment without a trip up 135 or 31, and sends lab, imaging and prescription orders to the Greenwood or County Line Road locations you already use.
’Johnson Service Area’ has been a HRSA Medically Underserved Area since 1994, and the county is inside the ’LI, Central Indiana MHCAs’ low-income mental health HPSA (2019); Windrose Health Network holds an FQHC shortage designation (score 19-21). No geographic or population primary care HPSA was found for Johnson County. Every hospital serving Greenwood is in Marion County or in Franklin; Johnson Memorial Health has consolidated Greenwood pediatrics into its Franklin campus (site notice). Greenwood has no IndyGo service. CDC PLACES estimates 7.3 percent of adults 18-64 are uninsured, below the state county median.
Johnson County looks healthier than Marion County on paper but shares its weight problem: CDC PLACES estimates 38.6 percent of adults have obesity, 10.7 percent have diabetes and 35.1 percent have high blood pressure, while about 7.3 percent of working-age adults are uninsured. Greenwood is also growing fast, which stretches primary care appointments. Video visits fit commuters who work downtown, parents whose pediatric office just moved to Franklin and who need care for kids five and up, adults working on weight or blood pressure, and anyone waiting on a mental health appointment in a designated shortage area. Go in person for chest pain, stroke signs, serious injury or severe breathing trouble; the Franciscan Health and Ascension St. Vincent emergency departments on S Emerson Ave are open 24 hours.
