Mental Health: included in low-income population HPSA ’LI, Central Indiana MHCAs’ (2019). Primary Care: no geographic or population HPSA found for Hamilton County (only the Aspire Indiana Health look-alike facility designation). No MUA/MUP found. Telehealth can complement local clinicians by offering another way to access primary care, mental health and medication follow-up while you keep your local relationships.

When clinically appropriate, we can send orders to a laboratory or imaging facility you choose. Confirm that the location performs the requested test, accepts the order and participates in your insurance network. Availability and travel distance vary by community.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Suburb · Hamilton County

Getting care in Carmel

Affluent, fast-growing suburb north of Indianapolis along the US 31 / Meridian Street medical corridor; Hamilton County is routinely ranked Indiana’s healthiest.

Carmel is not short on medicine. Ascension St. Vincent Carmel and IU Health North Hospital both run emergency departments on the Meridian Street corridor, Riverview Health is in Noblesville, and Hamilton County ranked healthiest in Indiana again in 2025. The gaps here are about time and fit rather than distance. The county has no full federally qualified health center, it still sits inside a low-income mental health shortage area, and there is essentially no bus service, so every appointment means a drive.

A video visit with Wade’s Care First works for the same reasons people here use telework: you get primary care, ADHD treatment, mental health follow-up or weight management on your schedule, and labs or imaging are ordered to a Carmel location you already pass on US 31.

Access in Hamilton County

Hamilton County ranked highest in Indiana in the 2025 County Health Rankings for community conditions that shape health, and has topped the state rankings since at least 2011 (WFYI, IBJ). CDC PLACES estimates only 5.4 percent of adults 18-64 are uninsured. Gaps are narrower but real: the county is still inside the ’LI, Central Indiana MHCAs’ low-income mental health HPSA (2019), Aspire Indiana Health offers primary and behavioral health care in Carmel. IndyGo does not serve Carmel; fixed-route transit is minimal, so most care depends on driving along the Meridian Street corridor. No MUA/MUP designation was found for Hamilton County.

Who this helps most in Carmel

Hamilton County’s numbers are the best in Indiana: CDC PLACES estimates 5.4 percent of working-age adults are uninsured, 31.9 percent have obesity and 8.6 percent have diabetes. Good averages still leave individuals waiting. The people a video visit helps most here are commuters and parents who cannot get to a 2 p.m. appointment, high school and college students with ADHD or anxiety, adults managing weight or blood pressure who want frequent check-ins, and older residents who no longer want to drive the corridor.

Mental Health care is the real constraint; the county remains a designated shortage area for low-income residents. Go in person for chest pain, stroke symptoms, serious injury or a child in respiratory distress; Ascension St. Vincent Carmel and IU Health North have 24-hour emergency departments.

Local health considerations

  • Healthiest-county profile: CDC PLACES 2025 release, using 2023 age-adjusted modeled estimates obesity 31.9%, diabetes 8.6%, smoking 9.3%, uninsured 18-64 5.4%, depression 22.9%, frequent mental distress 14.2%, all well below Indiana county medians.
  • Still a mental health shortage area for low-income residents (HRSA ’LI, Central Indiana MHCAs’, 2019) ; Aspire Indiana Health provides primary and behavioral health care at 697 Pro-Med Lane in Carmel.
  • Rapid growth: Carmel grew from 83,885 (2010) to 99,756 (2020) and an estimated 105,634 (2025), adding demand for primary care.
  • Top-ranked county: Hamilton County ranked highest in Indiana in the 2025 County Health Rankings.
