Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. Illinois’s second-largest city, a fast-growing, majority-minority Fox Valley suburb 40 miles west of Chicago.
Aurora is Illinois’s second-largest city, with about 180,000 residents spread across Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Will counties. It is young, diverse and growing: 41.6 percent of residents are Hispanic or Latino, and 15.7 percent speak English less than very well, so language access matters. About 9.7 percent of Aurorans are uninsured, above the Kane County rate, and the Inner City Aurora Service Area has been a federal Medically Underserved Area since 1994.
VNA Health Care, a federally qualified health center, runs five Aurora sites including Highland Avenue and Weston Avenue. A video visit with Charles Wade, FNP-BC, adds another option for primary care, mental health, ADHD and weight management without a trip across the Fox Valley.
CMAP’s 2026 snapshot (2020-2024 ACS): 41.6% of Aurora residents are Hispanic or Latino, 15.7% speak English less than very well, 9.7% are uninsured (Kane County 7.7%), 5.3% of households have no vehicle and 5.3% have no home internet. HRSA has designated the Inner City Aurora Service Area a Medically Underserved Area since 1994 and lists VNA Health Care as an FQHC; the LI-Northern IL mental health shortage designation (February 2026) includes Kane County.
Telehealth suits Aurora commuters, families balancing school schedules, and residents who prefer care without a drive to Naperville or Elgin. It is useful for blood pressure and diabetes management, anxiety and depression, ADHD, weight management, skin complaints and sleep problems. Pediatric visits are available for children five and older. Go in person for injuries, anything requiring a physical exam, or symptoms that are getting worse quickly. In an emergency, Rush Copley Medical Center at 2000 Ogden Avenue has a Level II trauma emergency department, and Mercy Medical Center’s emergency department is also Level II and approved for pediatrics; call 911 for chest pain, stroke symptoms or severe breathing trouble.
