All Patient Questions
Does Wade’s Care First have an office in Winslow?

No. Wade’s Care First is a telehealth practice. You join your visit by secure video from home, work or anywhere in Arizona, and Charles Wade, FNP-BC is licensed to treat you while you are in the state. Anything that needs hands-on care is coordinated with facilities in and around Winslow, such as Little Colorado Medical Center, Winslow (25-bed nonprofit critical access hospital; ADHS Level IV trauma center; emergency room, ICU, OB, swing beds), Dilkon Medical Center, Winslow Indian Health Care Center (24/7 emergency department on the Navajo Nation; serves eligible American Indian beneficiaries) and Flagstaff Medical Center (nearest ADHS Level I trauma center, Flagstaff).

Where will I go for blood work if I live in Winslow?

Little Colorado Medical Center operates a full-service clinical laboratory. Check Sonora Quest and Labcorp’s official locators for current collection locations and appointment requirements. We send the order electronically to a location that is convenient for you or in your insurance network. Results come back to us for review with you.

Which Winslow hospitals have an emergency department?

Little Colorado Medical Center, Winslow (25-bed nonprofit critical access hospital; ADHS Level IV trauma center; emergency room, ICU, OB, swing beds), Dilkon Medical Center, Winslow Indian Health Care Center (24/7 emergency department on the Navajo Nation; serves eligible American Indian beneficiaries) and Flagstaff Medical Center (nearest ADHS Level I trauma center, Flagstaff). For chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, a major injury or thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than booking a video visit.

Are there community health centers in Winslow for in-person care?

North Country HealthCare – Winslow (620 W. Lee St; HRSA-funded) and Winslow Indian Health Care Center, Inc. (not an FQHC; a Navajo Nation-chartered nonprofit operating the Winslow Indian Health Service program under Title V self-governance of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, P.L. 93-638; about 18,000 beneficiaries in eight chapters; Winslow, Dilkon and Leupp sites) serve the area with in-person primary care on a sliding scale. Many patients pair that kind of local clinic with telehealth for follow-ups, medication management and specialist coordination.

Can I use Arizona Medicaid or other insurance for a telehealth visit from Winslow?

Arizona Medicaid plans are not on the participating list right now. Plans accepted in Arizona: BCBS / Anthem PPO, UnitedHealthcare PPO, UMR (PPO), Aetna PPO, Cigna PPO, Humana PPO, Ambetter PPO, TRICARE. Benefits are verified before your visit, and self-pay pricing is posted if your plan is not accepted.

Is Winslow a health professional shortage area?

Navajo County has HRSA primary care and mental health HPSAs (PCP FTE shortage 5.3; psychiatrist FTE shortage 2.7). The Navajo Nation & Hopi Tribe tribal HPSAs have a primary care score of 11 (2.2 PCP FTE short) and a mental health score of 16 (3.74 FTE short). Arizona Center for Rural Health (Dec. 2024): Arizona has primary care physician shortages in all 15 counties, meets 35.4% of its primary care need and needs 493 more PCP FTEs; its mental health brief (2023) finds psychiatrist shortages in every county and just 8.54% of mental health need met. Telehealth can complement local clinicians by offering another way to access primary care, mental health and medication follow-up while you keep your local relationships.

Can orders be sent to a laboratory or imaging facility near me?

When clinically appropriate, we can send orders to a laboratory or imaging facility you choose. Confirm that the location performs the requested test, accepts the order and participates in your insurance network. Availability and travel distance vary by community.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Getting care in Winslow

A small Interstate 40 railroad town on the southwestern edge of the Navajo Nation, served by one 25-bed critical access hospital and a tribally operated health center.

Winslow has a 25-bed critical access hospital, Little Colorado Medical Center, a North Country HealthCare clinic, and the Winslow Indian Health Care Center, which is run by a Navajo Nation-chartered nonprofit for eligible American Indian beneficiaries. Each is stretched, and researchers listed the Winslow hospital among five Arizona rural hospitals at risk of closure in 2025. If you are not eligible for IHS services, or you are and want additional options, a video visit with Wade’s Care First can cover primary care, mental health, ADHD, weight management and minor illnesses, with labs and prescriptions sent to Winslow. You need a stable internet or phone connection; if home service is unreliable, a visit from a library, workplace or a relative’s house can work.

Access in Navajo County

Navajo County needs 5.3 more primary care physician FTEs and 2.7 psychiatrist FTEs, and the Navajo Nation & Hopi tribal HPSAs score 11 (primary care) and 16 (mental health). Broadband is a documented barrier: Navajo Nation testimony in 2020 said over half of Navajo chapters lacked any broadband, only 4 of 109 chapters had plans meeting the FCC’s broadband definition, and tribal lands cover two-thirds of Navajo County; a 2025 $8 million Frontier/Verizon settlement targets Navajo and Apache counties. IHS and tribally operated facilities serve eligible American Indian and Alaska Native beneficiaries, so non-Native Winslow residents rely on LCMC and North Country HealthCare.

Who this helps most in Winslow

Telehealth helps Winslow residents who work on the railroad or Interstate 40 corridor, families in Joseph City and Holbrook, people who would otherwise drive to Flagstaff for Routine Care, and Navajo Nation members who want an additional option alongside their tribal health center. It suits refills, blood pressure and diabetes follow-up, depression and anxiety, ADHD, skin problems and sleep concerns. For emergencies, go to Little Colorado Medical Center’s emergency room or, on the reservation, Dilkon Medical Center’s 24/7 emergency department; both can stabilize you and arrange transfer to Flagstaff, the nearest Level I trauma center. Chest pain, stroke symptoms, serious injuries, severe breathing trouble or a very sick young child should never wait for a video visit.

Local health considerations

  • Hospital fragility: Winslow’s hospital was named among five Arizona rural hospitals at risk of closure in a 2025 University of North Carolina analysis (Arizona Center for Rural Health news, July 2025).
  • Tribal health system: Winslow Indian Health Care Center runs the IHS program for about 18,000 beneficiaries in eight Navajo Nation chapters under Title V self-governance; its Dilkon Medical Center has a 24/7 emergency department (WIHCC; IHS Navajo Area; HigherGov grant record).
  • Connectivity: over half of Navajo chapters lacked any broadband in 2020 and only four had FCC-standard plans (New America, Oct. 2020); two-thirds of Navajo County is tribal land (KJZZ, 2025).
