Blood work is straightforward in Tucson. Prescriptions can be routed to Walgreens, CVS, Fry’s, Safeway, Bashas’, Walmart or Costco pharmacies, whichever is closest to you. If you split time between Tucson and somewhere else, tell your clinician so refills follow you.

All Patient Questions
Does Wade’s Care First have an office in Tucson?

No. Wade’s Care First is a telehealth practice. You join your visit by secure video from home, work or anywhere in Arizona, and Charles Wade, FNP-BC is licensed to treat you while you are in the state. Anything that needs hands-on care is coordinated with facilities in and around Tucson, such as Banner – University Medical Center Tucson (ADHS Level I trauma center), Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital (ADHS Level I), Tucson Medical Center, flagship of TMC Health (locally governed nonprofit, about 641 beds) and Northwest Medical Center (ADHS Level III) and Banner – University Medical Center South (ADHS Level III).

Where will I go for blood work if I live in Tucson?

Sonora Quest Laboratories lists several Tucson patient service centers (ZIP codes 85711, 85704, 85746, 85730, plus an appointment-only site inside a Safeway in 85747) and nearby Oro Valley and Green Valley sites in its February 2026 directory. Labcorp lists Tucson patient service centers (e.g., N. Wilmot Rd). Hospital outpatient labs are available at TMC and Banner. We send the order electronically to a location that is convenient for you or in your insurance network. Results come back to us for review with you.

Which Tucson hospitals have an emergency department?

Banner – University Medical Center Tucson (ADHS Level I trauma center), Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital (ADHS Level I), Tucson Medical Center, flagship of TMC Health (locally governed nonprofit, about 641 beds) and Northwest Medical Center (ADHS Level III) and Banner – University Medical Center South (ADHS Level III). For chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, a major injury or thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than booking a video visit.

Are there community health centers in Tucson for in-person care?

El Rio Health (El Rio Santa Cruz Neighborhood Health Center; HRSA-funded, founded 1970, 14–16 Pima County sites, serves about one in ten Tucsonans) and MHC Healthcare (Marana Health Center, Inc.; sites in Marana and across Tucson) serves the area with in-person primary care on a sliding scale. Many patients pair that kind of local clinic with telehealth for follow-ups, medication management and specialist coordination.

Can I use Arizona Medicaid or other insurance for a telehealth visit from Tucson?

Arizona Medicaid plans are not on the participating list right now. Plans accepted in Arizona: BCBS / Anthem PPO, UnitedHealthcare PPO, UMR (PPO), Aetna PPO, Cigna PPO, Humana PPO, Ambetter PPO, TRICARE. Benefits are verified before your visit, and self-pay pricing is posted if your plan is not accepted.

Is Tucson a health professional shortage area?

Pima County has multiple HRSA primary care and mental health HPSAs, including 4 FQHC/look-alike facility HPSAs and 2 correctional facility HPSAs; PCP FTE shortage 82.7, psychiatrist FTE shortage 10.7. The Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Tohono O’odham Nation tribal HPSAs (scores 19 and 17) are in the Tucson region. Arizona Center for Rural Health (Dec. 2024): Arizona has primary care physician shortages in all 15 counties, meets 35.4% of its primary care need and needs 493 more PCP FTEs; its mental health brief (2023) finds psychiatrist shortages in every county and just 8.54% of mental health need met. Telehealth can complement local clinicians by offering another way to access primary care, mental health and medication follow-up while you keep your local relationships.

Can orders be sent to a laboratory or imaging facility near me?

When clinically appropriate, we can send orders to a laboratory or imaging facility you choose. Confirm that the location performs the requested test, accepts the order and participates in your insurance network. Availability and travel distance vary by community.

Good to know

Services, screening recommendations, testing, treatment options, referrals and prescribing may vary with your age, medical history, symptoms, where you are physically located at the time of the visit, state and federal requirements, insurance requirements, and whether your condition can be safely managed by telehealth. Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Getting care in Tucson

Southern Arizona’s university and health-care hub, a Sonoran Desert city 60 miles from the Mexican border.

Tucson has strong hospitals, two Level I trauma centers and a large community health center network, yet Pima County is still short about 83 primary care physicians by federal count, so getting established with a regular clinician can take months. A video visit with Wade’s Care First is a way to get primary care, mental health support, ADHD treatment, weight management and everyday urgent concerns handled without traveling across town for the video visit.

You see the same nurse practitioner each time, and anything that needs a physical exam, a procedure or a specialist is referred to local resources. If you already use El Rio Health or MHC Healthcare, telehealth can fill gaps between visits rather than replace that relationship.

Access in Pima County

Pima County needs an estimated 82.7 additional primary care physician FTEs and 10.7 psychiatrist FTEs to eliminate its HRSA shortage designations, second only to Maricopa. Extreme heat is an important local health concern. Follow current Pima County heat advisories and seek prompt care for concerning symptoms. Pima County residents made 443 heat-related ED visits in 2025, up from 251 in 2021. Arizona’s uninsured rate was 10.3% in 2024.

Who this helps most in Tucson

Telehealth helps Tucson residents who commute long distances, students and shift workers, people managing several chronic conditions, and anyone who finds it hard to leave home in the summer. It suits refills, mental health follow-up, ADHD, rashes and skin checks, sleep problems, hormone and weight questions, and minor illnesses. Two local issues deserve attention: a cough with fatigue that lasts more than a few weeks may be valley fever, which is common in Pima County and worth testing for; and heat illness, which can become life-threatening. Chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe shortness of breath, major injuries or heat collapse need 911 or a local emergency department, not a video call.

Local health considerations

  • Heat: extreme heat can cause serious illness. Seek emergency help for heat collapse, confusion or severe symptoms. Follow local public-health heat advisories.
  • Valley fever: Arizona is an area where the fungus that causes Valley fever occurs. Persistent cough, fatigue or other concerning symptoms may need assessment and testing; symptoms alone cannot confirm the infection.
  • Physician shortage: Pima County is short 82.7 primary care physician FTEs under HRSA criteria (Arizona Center for Rural Health, Dec. 2024).
