Getting care in Chandler

A southeast Valley technology and family suburb that has grown rapidly with semiconductor and corporate employers.

Chandler has grown faster than its clinic capacity, and it shares Maricopa County’s shortage of roughly 226 primary care physicians by federal measure. Many residents work demanding schedules at tech campuses or commute across the East Valley, which makes a weekday clinic visit hard to fit in. Wade’s Care First sees you by video for primary care, mental health, ADHD, weight management, skin concerns and common urgent problems, and refers you locally when a hands-on exam or specialist is needed. For in-person care, Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center is a Level I trauma center with a 24-hour emergency department on Frye Road, and Banner Desert in neighboring Mesa is also Level I.

Access in Maricopa County

Chandler is within Maricopa County, which needs 225.6 more primary care physician FTEs and 40.5 psychiatrist FTEs to clear its HRSA shortage designations. The county identified 430 heat-related deaths in 2025. Statewide, 10.3% of Arizonans and 9.3% of Arizona children were uninsured in 2024.

Who this helps most in Chandler

Telehealth works well for Chandler’s working parents, remote and shift employees, college students home for the summer, and older adults who want to avoid driving in triple-digit heat. It covers refills and chronic condition follow-up, anxiety and depression, ADHD evaluation and management, sleep concerns, rashes and skin checks, and weight-loss planning. It is not a substitute for emergency care. Chest pain, signs of stroke, serious injuries, severe asthma or breathing problems, or confusion and collapse in the heat need 911 or Chandler Regional’s emergency department. Children under five, and anyone who needs a physical exam, vaccines or stitches, should be seen in person at a local clinic or urgent care.

Local health considerations

  • Extreme heat: 430 heat-related deaths in Maricopa County in 2025 and 608 in 2024 (Maricopa County Department of Public Health).
  • Valley fever: Arizona is an area where the fungus that causes Valley fever occurs. Persistent cough, fatigue or other concerning symptoms may need assessment and testing; symptoms alone cannot confirm the infection.
  • Level I trauma access: Chandler Regional Medical Center is a state-designated Level I trauma center with a 24-hour emergency department (ADHS; Dignity Health).
